About Batchelar McDougall

We will be 20 next year We've grown from two people in Wānaka in 2006 to 27 today. We are structural specialists with in-house civil capability to ensure the quality of our projects.

We have offices in Christchurch and Wānaka and work all over the country on unique projects. From flagship car showrooms to new schools, from $20m architectural homes to earthquake repairs, and from heritage civic buildings to award-winning timber structures, we cover an enormous breadth of design practice.

Our business is owned and operated by its directors, and we have a clear vision and pathway for the progression and succession of our staff. Engineering is the tool we use, but what we deliver is value for our clients.

We are strongly connected to our community - our major supporting relationship in Christchurch is with the Maia Health Foundation, and we dedicate a Regional Donation Budget for staff to allocate in each office every year.

The Opportunity For You

We are seeking a Structural Engineer who has enough experience to know what they don't know, who wants trust and opportunity, and who is either ready to be mentored into, or can confidently step into the role of Project Engineer, with a pathway to a leadership role if that is an exciting opportunity.

About you

In this role, we expect you will be:

  • Experienced – 6 years +, with technical knowledge and practical experience of NZ design codes, practices and New Zealand seismic design.
  • Curious and motivated – we're a consultancy, we solve problems for people, and often that means working to find a novel solution.
  • Human – the fundamental of our business is relationships, both internally with our team and with our clients and stakeholders.
  • Ambitious – we don't want to have to push you along a pathway, we want people motivated to perform and develop as a consulting engineer.
  • Practical – things need to be designed to be built as simply and safely as possible, and that is a crucial part of good design.
