We are a busy restaurant in Wellington City Centre and we are now hiring 1 Chef.

Hours: 40 hours per week (Minimum 30 hours guaranteed)

Payrate: $29.66 to $32.00 per hour

Job duties of the position offered –

  • Managing the kitchen operation, kitchen work flow and staffing levels for the team

    Planning and designing menus when necessary, including main menu, chef special menu and the special function menu
  • Introducing and creating new dishes which take place from time to time
  • Estimating the cost of dishes for menu item to maximise profit
  • Making the ingredient and grocery shopping list to the purchaser/manager, or doing shopping of these ingredients
  • Monitoring the cooking procedures and food quality at all stages
  • Formulating food preparation procedures and discussing these issues with the manager, and all other kitchen staff
  • Demonstrating cooking techniques and procedures for the team and advising/supervising other kitchen staff of these techniques
  • Preparing and cooking high quality A La Carte menu items dishes provided by the business
  • Enforcing hygiene regulations and maintaining hygienic standard of kitchen, including utensils and foods
  • Maintaining the health and safety regulations in the workplace
  • Supervising and training other junior kitchen staff
  • Monitoring the storage of food in the freezers, refrigerators and walk-in-chillers
  • Other duties instructed by the owner from time to time as necessary to maintain the sustainability of the business

Requirements of the position offered -

  • NZQF Level 4/5 Diploma in cookery or relevant field, or at least three years relevant work experience is required
  • Be available to work on weekends and public holidays as per the roster
  • Flexibility to work within a 7-Days a week operation including split shifts
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment with good communication skills and team spirit
  • Able to work till late evenings
  • Can pass drug test and have a clean police record
