Senior Principal - Data Engineering
Slalom's Data Engineering capability is focused on injecting intelligence into organisations, engineering systems that support learning and insight, and creating innovative data solutions. Within Data Engineering we help customers build world-class data environments through effective use of:
- Modern data platforms and architecture - designing scalable, future-proof data foundations that enable organisations to derive maximum value from their data assets
- Real-time and streaming data solutions - enabling immediate insights and actions through event-driven architectures and continuous data processing
- Machine learning and artificial intelligence - embedding intelligence into processes and systems to drive automated decision-making and innovation
- Data engineering best practices - implementing DataOps methodologies and engineering excellence to ensure reliable, high-quality data delivery
- Data strategy and architecture - developing comprehensive approaches that align data initiatives with business objectives and designing scalable, future-proof data foundations
- Specialised data technologies - leveraging purpose-built data storage and processing solutions to address unique business challenges and use cases
What You'll Do
- Design and deliver innovative cloud data solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Work with modern data technologies including:
§ Cloud data warehouses
§ Distributed processing engines
§ Event-streaming platforms
§ Other modern data engineering tools
- Partner with forward-thinking organisations to understand needs and shape opportunities into team-based delivery projects.
- Lead the analysis, architecture, design, and development of complex data solutions.
- Define cloud data strategies and create multi-phased implementation roadmaps for clients.
- Support business development with pre-sales activities, including estimation and project planning.
- Actively contribute to Slalom's cloud and data community, helping drive new capabilities and thought leadership.
What You'll Bring

- Strong hands-on experience in modern data architecture and engineering.
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development.
- Deep expertise in several of the following:
§ Traditional data platforms and solutions
§ Modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks)
§ Data architecture on AWS, Azure, or GCP including patterns and best practices
§ Cloud-native data services (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Google Cloud Dataflow, Azure Synapse)
§ General-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Scala)
§ Streaming and event-driven architectures
§ Modern workflow and orchestration tools (e.g., dbt, Apache Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
§ AI / MLOps (advantageous but not essential)
