He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:

As a Sustainability Associate, you'll help drive KiwiRail's sustainability goals by supporting carbon emissions reporting, building internal engagement, and embedding sustainable practices across our business. You'll play a key role in our Sustainability Programme—from leading our Team Kākāriki employee network to contributing to climate adaptation and waste minimisation projects and supporting business units to meet their sustainability targets.

This is a hands-on, collaborative role that combines data analysis, communication, and project coordination to help us deliver meaningful progress on our sustainability commitments.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has 2–4 years' experience in sustainability or a related field.
  • Is confident managing and analysing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data for sustainability reporting.
  • Familiar with GHG reporting platforms such as BraveGen.
  • Communicates clearly and builds strong relationships across teams.
  • Is organised, adaptable, and motivated to make a difference.
  • Passionate and brings positive energy to the role.
  • Has an analytical mindset.
  • Shares our commitment to safety, wellbeing, and continuous improvement.
