Physiotherapist - Pain Management
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital or Hutt Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
We are excited to be advertising for a Physiotherapist with passion for working in a highly experienced, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to join the Wellington Regional Pain Service. This is a rare opportunity in this specialty area. The Physiotherapist in this role will be part of MDT assessments and group based therapeutic sessions as well as seeing patients one-on one. You will promote self-management based strategies to a wide spectrum of pain conditions, as well as providing ACC funded pain services. The service works over three sites and you will be expected to work from Wellington as well as the Hutt hospital.
You will guide physical conditioning and restoration of physical function in the presence of persistent pain, partnering with the patients to support transition from pain as a symptom to being the disease. You will help to increase their confidence in the integrity of the body by bridging theory and practice - education and movement.
About the Team/Service Location
The Pain Management Service is a Tertiary service with a multi-disciplinary team for people with persistent pain with complex needs. It accepts referrals for people whose pain is contributing to significant pain-related disability and preventing them from undertaking their usual activities, including work.
The Service is an accredited training facility and leads clinically based research activities. The service has a strong Allied Health led Inter-professional approach to providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for people with persistent pain.
About you
We are seeking a physiotherapist to provide safe and clinically effective patient/client assessment and intervention. Experience in pain management is desirable but not essential.
You will be motivated to support people living with long-term conditions, such as chronic pain and to find ways to help them maximise their function and participation in valued aspects of their lives. As a reflective practitioner, you will value the contributions of other members in the team. There will be opportunities for research within this role to develop your focus on quality and equity in pain management.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- 4 years post-graduate experience
- Interest in supporting self-management
- Flexibility - to be able to adapt to ongoing changes of the health system
- A good team player but also able to work autonomously and comfortable with self-directed learning
