Overnight Awake Assistant/Taituarā

L'Arche Kāpiti is looking to hire an Overnight Awake Assistant/Taituarā (Personal Care Worker) for one of our L'Arche homes in Paraparaumu. The successful applicant will be required to offer support at least 4-5 times per night for the Core Members (adults with an intellectual disability) who live there. Between such waking times, the Assistant would often be able to sleep.

For this role, the successful applicant will receive the awake-overnight rate (Pay Equity rate) for the whole night, due to the high number of times they need to wake up to offer support.

Hours of support: 9:00 pm to 7:30 am, on Thursday and Friday nights (21 hours/week). Additional daytime hours may also be available.

While the successful applicant will receive in-depth orientation to the needs of our Core Members and the house/team they support, the following skills and aptitudes are required:

· Level 3 qualification (Careerforce Health and Wellbeing certificate) preferred OR equivalent qualification or experience

· Experience with supporting adults in the disability and/or aged-care sectors

· Appreciation of the gifts that those with disabilities bring to society, and a desire and openness to learn from one another

· An appreciation of the L'Arche ethos

· Strong communication skills (especially re: written progress notes for shift handover)

· Ability to be roused easily when asleep/light sleeper

Location: Paraparaumu (Kāpiti Coast), Wellington

Minimum guaranteed hours: 21 hours/week

Note: It would be advantageous if the applicant were willing and able to join our Casual Assistant pool for additional support hours.

Minimum and maximum rate of pay:Rate of pay will range from $28.95/hour (NZ Living Wage rate) to $30.00/hour (L'Arche Kāpiti Level 4 rate), depending on one's Pay Equity qualification or equivalent.
