Job Title: Registered Nurse – Pre-Assessment
Location: The Rutherford Clinic, Wellington
Reports to: Clinical Manager
Employment Type: Full-time/Part-time hours to suit candidate
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team in a Pre-Assessment role, supporting patients undergoing a range of endoscopic and clinic-based procedures. This role involves conducting comprehensive pre-assessments either via telephone or face-to-face, ensuring patients are well-prepared and safe for their upcoming procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct pre-assessment consultations for patients scheduled for procedures such as:
Gastroscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Dilatation
- Bravo pH monitoring
- Capsule endoscopy
- Ano-rectal or oesophageal manometry
- Breath testing
- Alimetry
Assess patient medical history, medications, allergies, and risk factors.
Identify patients requiring face-to-face assessments due to language barriers, clinical complexity, or post-clinic needs.
Liaise with proceduralists, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and safety.
Provide clear pre-procedure instructions and education to patients and their whānau.
Document assessments accurately in the patient management system.
Escalate concerns or findings that may impact the safety or appropriateness of the planned procedure.
Skills & Experience:
Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in endoscopy, surgical, or pre-assessment settings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport over the phone and in person.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work autonomously.
Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
Commitment to culturally safe and patient-centered care.
Desirable Attributes:
Previous experience in pre-assessment or endoscopy nursing.
Knowledge of sedation and anaesthetic risk factors.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Flexibility to adapt to changing clinical needs and patient volumes.
Working Conditions:
Primarily based at The Rutherford Clinic, we have two sites, (Lower Hutt and Wellington).
Pre-assessments are typically conducted over the phone from the clinic; however, face-to-face assessments may be required.
Standard business hours with occasional flexibility depending on patient needs.
