He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
We're looking for a highly experienced Procurement Manager to lead procurement for Watercare's major projects and programmes  over $100 million. This strategic role ensures best value for customers, compliance with government rules, and alignment with Watercare's vision. You'll influence procurement practices across capital programme delivery, driving innovation, operational excellence, and timely delivery of the Watercare Asset Management Plan.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading procurement for major projects and programmes over $100M
  • Developing and implementing category strategies for engineering and construction
  • Managing complex contract negotiations and supplier relationships
  • Driving market sounding processes and advising on delivery models
  • Ensuring probity, compliance, and cost validation processes
  • Mentoring and guiding the team on complex procurement tasks

You'll bring:
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or Business
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in procurement leadership within large, complex organisations
  • Extensive experience in engineering and construction procurement
  • Strong knowledge of commercial contracts (CCCS, NZS3910, NZS3916, international forms)
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Ability to deliver results under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • A commitment to excellence and collaborative working
  • Additional business/commercial qualifications (e.g., MBA)
  • Experience in water or infrastructure industries
  • Understanding of contract law and standard conditions
