Te tūranga | The role

We are looking for a highly organised and people-focused Kaiwhakatau Manuhiri | Front of House Coordinator to join our team at Te Ara Whānui ki te Rangi Space Place, where we explore the wonders of the universe in our interactive galleries and share the stories of the night sky in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for every visitor, setting the tone with warmth, professionalism, and genuine engagement from the moment they arrive. You will also coordinate the smooth daily running of the front desk and visitor experience team, making sure everything from run-sheets to retail displays are in order. You'll be the go-to person for day-to-day communication and logistics, helping the wider team focus on delivering remarkable experiences.

This position will be 3 days per week, Thursday to Saturday at its base during 'School Term Time' with the potential increase to 5 days per week, Tuesday to Saturday during 'School Holidays'. Weekend and public holiday availability is required. A current First Aid or Duty Manager's Certificate would be advantageous for a candidate.

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills, with the ability to connect with a wide range of visitors
  • Highly organised, proactive, and confident in fast-paced environments
  • Flexibility to adapt in quieter times and busier ones
  • Experienced in front of house, visitor services, or office coordination
  • Expert in front of house administration and proficient Office 365 user
  • Knowledgeable about retail administration and stock control
  • Committed to te ao Māori and confident in using te reo
  • Confident using digital tools for scheduling, communications, and inventory management
  • Rock solid reliable with sound time management skills
  • Passionate about history, museums, and community building
