Senior Accounts Administrator

Ocula is looking for a high-performing Senior Accounts Administrator to lead the finance function across our group of 7 optometry practices, with more growth on the horizon. This permanent, full-time hybrid role is based in Auckland with work split between home and our practice in Newmarket.
You'll manage everything from payroll and GST to month-end reporting, and must be available for 2–3 one week blocks of initial training in Wanaka. CA qualification is not required — just proven experience and strong capability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Take ownership of our internal accounting practices.
- Manage and complete accounts payable, payroll (iPayroll), GST filing, IRD payments, and Xero reconciliations.
- Manage month-end journals, inventory reporting, sales data, reconciliations, location tracking, and workpapers to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare P&L summaries and assist with other reporting.
- Improve systems and support audit readiness.
- Lead a small team of Accounts Assistants, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience in end-to-end accounts administration and payroll.
- Strong knowledge of Xero, GST, and IRD payments.
- Solid understanding of month-end processes, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Strong Excel and/or Google Sheet skills and familiarity with iPayroll.
- High attention to detail with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence working independently while leading and supporting a small team.
- A proactive approach to improving systems and maintaining tidy, accurate accounts.
