Mō te tūranga | About the role

As Mātua Tirotiro | Senior Investigator, you'll play a pivotal role in upholding professional standards by leading investigations into teacher conduct for the Complaints Assessment Committee (CAC). These cases are often complex, sensitive, and high-profile, requiring sound judgment and, at times, specialist expertise. You'll also support the coordination of the Impairment Committee.

Beyond investigations, you'll provide guidance and expert advice to the wider team and help to build capability and ensure best practice.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You'll bring exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of people.  Strong decision-making skills are essential, along with confidence in conducting interviews with witnesses from diverse backgrounds.

In this role, you'll also act as a mentor to investigators and serve as the escalation point for complex issues, so experience in coaching or mentoring is highly valued.

At times, you will be required to travel within Aotearoa to attend hearings and to meet with members of the profession.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Education, Law, Police or other relevant disciplines
  • Strong competency of Tikanga, Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Te Reo Māori
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience of Pasifika values and cultures is highly regarded. Fluency in a Pasifika language would be considered an advantage
  • 3 or more years' experience conducting investigations into complaints in a regulatory body or 6 or more years' experience in a New Zealand educational context
  • Familiarity with the regulatory framework of the Teaching Council and employment frameworks for teachers or similar professions is desirable
