About the role

McConnell Dowell is seeking a driven Site Engineer to join our team, with exciting opportunity's across Otago, including a one-year project in Queenstown starting January 2026. This role offers the chance to work on high-profile infrastructure projects, gaining hands-on experience across construction delivery while contributing to the success of complex and challenging works.

Upon completion of the Queenstown project, the successful candidate may be asked to relocate depending on future project needs.

As a Site Engineer, you'll work closely with Project Engineers and Supervisors to coordinate on-site activities, manage technical documentation, and ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality.

What you'll do:

  • Coordinate site engineering activities, temporary works, and scheduling.
  • Support the preparation of construction programmes, inspection plans, and quality records.
  • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and interpret engineering drawings for field teams.
  • Undertake inspections, tests, and engineering audits to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor progress, manpower, and costs, maintaining accurate reports.
  • Manage document control and ensure adherence to McConnell Dowell's safety, quality, and environmental standards.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering.
  • Previous experience in an engineering or construction role (internships or graduate-level experience advantageous).
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Able to manage deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced project environment.
