Permanent Part-time role (20 hours Monday-Friday)

Glen Innes Kindergarten is seeking a committed and culturally grounded Kaiako to join our vibrant and caring teaching team. If you bring strong indigenous practice, deep Pasifika knowledge, and a genuine openness to a curiosity-driven approach, we would love to hear from you. We are an aroha-centred, whānau-focused kindergarten where relationships, belonging and joyful learning are at the heart of our practice.

We are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has strong indigenous worldview practice and a commitment to culturally sustaining pedagogy.
  • Values Māori and Pasifika ways of knowing, being, and doing.
  • Models manaakitanga, aroha, and respectful relationships with tamariki and whānau.
  • Is reflective, flexible, and enthusiastic about child-led, inquiry-rich learning.

As a Kaiako in our centre, you will:

  • Champion te ao Māori perspectives, weaving tikanga, te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori and whanaungatanga into everyday learning.
  • Bring understanding, warmth, and respect for Pasifika cultures, values, and aiga engagement.
  • Embrace a curiosity-based pedagogy, supporting tamariki to question, explore, create and lead their own learning pathways.
  • Confidently use Te Whāriki to guide high-quality planning, assessment and practice.
  • Write learning stories that authentically reflect children's identities, cultures, dispositional learning and the holistic principles of Te Whāriki.
  • Work collaboratively with kaiako, whānau and our wider community.

What You Need:

  • Registered and certificated ECE Kaiako
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural practice
  • Passion for play-based learning, inclusiveness, and connection with nature
