Christchurch Central, New Zealand St Bede's College Full time NZ$120,000 - NZ$180,000 per year

Founded in 1911, St Bede's College is a Catholic boys' day and boarding school in Christchurch, proudly shaping men of character for more than a century.

Guided by our Catholic faith in the Marist tradition, we are a community where faith, learning, and wellbeing come together, where every boy is known, challenged, and inspired to become a young man of purpose, integrity, and compassion.

As a vibrant and future-focused school, St Bede's combines proud traditions with innovation in teaching, learning, and student formation. Our story is one of faith, people, and community - and we invite leaders who share that spirit to walk with us.

The Role

The Director of Faith and Leadership plays a central role in nurturing the Catholic Special Character and Marist identity of the College.

Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director will lead the Centre of Faith and Leadership, guiding how faith is lived across school life - through relationships, learning, liturgy, and service.

This role is both spiritual and strategic. It involves walking alongside young men and staff, leading the College's faith formation and encounter programmes, and ensuring that faith remains a lived, authentic presence in the everyday life of St Bede's.

This is a permanent full time position, commencing January 2026.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead faith and character across the College, modelling a lived faith grounded in the Catholic tradition and Marist Charism.
  • Inspire and support staff and students to engage meaningfully in faith life, embracing both tradition and contemporary realities.
  • Oversee the Centre of Faith and Leadership, including liturgy, service, and encounter programmes that meet boys where they are in their journey of faith.
  • Contribute strategically as part of the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring faith and values are woven through College culture, learning, and direction.
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning, modelling professional credibility, relational practice, and a deep understanding of how boys learn.

About You

You will be an authentic, faith-filled leader who:

  • Lives and models the Catholic faith and Marist Charism in everyday life.
  • Brings experience in faith leadership, formation, or Catholic education.
  • Is an accomplished teacher with a passion for boys' learning and development.
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with staff, students, whānau, and parish communities.
  • Understands and applies Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice in a Catholic context.
  • Brings presence, empathy, and courage to leadership.

Why Join St Bede's?

  • Lead faith and formation in one of New Zealand's most historic Catholic boys' schools.
  • Join a collaborative, future-focused Senior Leadership Team.
  • Contribute to a community built on faith, character, and connection.

This is a Tagged Special Character position and requires a willingness and an ability to take part in religious instruction appropriate to the school's special character and this will be a condition of appointment.  Participation in the co-curricular aspect of the college is expected.
