Are you passionate about keeping Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana, its waters and islands, their flora, fauna, and natural resources pristine and healthy? If you have an interest in talking about our marine and terrestrial environment, biosecurity or conservation, then this will be the role for you
We are seeking an outgoing, supportive and reliable individual who wants to protect this beautiful backyard while providing support to a team of Biosecurity Ambassadors. This is the perfect opportunity to take on exciting temporary summer work and kick-start your new year with a passion.
The Role
Serious biosecurity issues, including plant diseases, rodents and marine pests, to name a few, are affecting our Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and Islands, and we want you to coordinate a group of ambassadors who will educate the public to prevent further harm.
The Biosecurity Ambassadors Coordinator together with the Biosecurity Ambassadors engage with recreational boat owners, boat users and ferry passengers in an education and advocacy role by speaking to people about the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases and how this can occur.
You will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the ambassadors daily tasks, rosters, handout materials, performance, and coordinate logistics of a specifically designed outreach trailer to various sites throughout the summer. The coordinator will raise awareness of marine and terrestrial pests, the pest free status of many of our islands, the potential threats to them, and the importance of checking and cleaning marine (and terrestrial) gear before heading out.
You must also be comfortable and confident approaching and talking to people, working outdoors and in a variety of locations. Reliable transport is a must. Training will be provided.
