OSPRI is accepting expressions of interest for a Database Administrator. This is a full-time, permanent role based in our Wellington office.

OSPRI is the livestock sector's integrated disease management and traceability agency and a critical part of New Zealand's agribusiness and food economy. OSPRI currently manages three major national programmes: TBfree (directed at the eradication of bovine tuberculosis), M.bovisfree (directed at attaining freedom from M.bovis) and NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing System).

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:
As a SQL Server DBA, you'll play a central role in the stability and performance of our core systems. This is a critical position that keeps data flowing seamlessly behind the scenes, supporting the systems that underpin New Zealand's National Animal Disease Management and Traceability programmes.
You'll be responsible for monitoring and maintaining OSPRI's SQL Server databases and legacy data services, where your technical expertise will help ensure these systems remain secure, resilient, and high performing.
This is a role for someone who thrives on consistency and finds satisfaction in being a steady hand, helping OSPRI keep its promise of operational integrity.

We are looking for someone who thrives on keeping things running smoothly and is comfortable handling the day-to-day management of systems that others rely on but rarely see. You will have an eye for detail and a knack for identifying and resolving issues before they impact operations.
You're someone who can clearly communicate complex information and bring a calm, solution-focused approach to problem-solving. This is a vital role that keeps our systems humming in the background, quietly essential to our success.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
- A deep knowledge of SQL Server databases and legacy data servers.
- Proven experience managing and maintaining complex database environments that support critical business systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Strong written communication skills, with proven ability to translate business information needs into technical specifications.
