Position Purpose

To provide high-quality customer service, information, and community engagement for people with disabilities, older persons, and their whānau. This role supports Livingwell's values of respectful, informed and honesty to promote enhanced independence and quality of life through information, assistive products and community connection.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Promotion

  • Represent Livingwell at community events, expos, and transition expos by setting up and managing information stands.
  • Present weekly disability-related content on Otago Access Radio, sharing information, events, and updates.
  • Support Livingwell's social media presence by creating and posting community-focused content.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organisations, service providers, and fieldworkers.
  • Assist with planning and delivering outreach initiatives that promote disability awareness and inclusion.

Information and Specialist Enquiries

  • Respond to complex or specialist disability enquiries, providing accurate information and referrals.
  • Maintain and update the Livingwell service directory to ensure information is current and reliable.
  • Support Total Mobility assessments and coordinate communication between assessors, customers, and transport providers.

Customer Service and Retail Support

  • Provide welcoming, knowledgeable front-line service to customers in person, online, and by phone.
  • Manage customer enquiries related to assistive products, continence products, and disability resources.
  • Process sales, hire agreements, and payments through the point-of-sale system.
  • Clean, prepare, and maintain hire equipment to ensure quality and safety.

    Keep shop and resource areas well-organised, stocked, and accessible.

Team and Administrative Support

  • Contribute to a collaborative, supportive team culture.
  • Assist with daily operations, shop cover, recycling, and general centre organisation.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to monthly reporting.
  • Assist with daily shop cover and provide support to colleagues during absences or

    busy periods.
  • Attend and contribute to fortnightly team meetings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Confident public speaker and community representative.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Competent with digital tools, social media, and administrative systems.
  • Understanding of disability rights, inclusion, and community development principles.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Excellent customer service skills and retail experience
  • The ability and confidence to relate to a wide variety of people
  • Software – highly desirable to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, VEND POS system, XERO accounting software, P-Touch Editor price labelling.
  • Flexibility, versatility, and use initiative.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • A clean Police record

  • A lived experience of disability
  • Experience of providing a range of information services
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the culture of the disability sector
  • Knowledge, understanding and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NZ Disability Strategy and a commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
  • Knowledge of the Code of Rights for Health and Disability Services
  • Knowledge of current Aotearoa Disability Models
  • A clean and full driver's licence
