About the role

As a Clinical Coder, you will provide accurate and timely coding of diseases and procedures for all patients discharged from the hospital. There is high demand to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and quality of information in line with NDHB and MoH requirements. You will need high attention to detail, accuracy, and proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our team of 30 is split into the following three services:

  • Clinical Records
  • Release of Information
  • Clinical Coding.

This Clinical Coder role will be based in Whangarei and is currently an onsite-only position.

About you

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • We are looking for an experienced Level 2 or above Clinical Coder
  • You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritise changing workloads
  • Medical Terminology and Clinical Coding qualifications
  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a clinical coder and/or experience using 3M Codefinder software
  • Minimum of two years previous health-related clerical, clinical record, nursing, or clinical experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly in healthcare settings
