About the Role
The MRI Team Leader at Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Gisborne Hospital MRI service to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient diagnostic imaging. This role provides clinical leadership, technical expertise, and staff supervision within the MRI team, while promoting best practice, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement. General X-Ray scope is desirable.

About the Team/Service/ Location
We are looking for someone to lead our team of three MRI Technologists. Located in Gisborne Hospital Radiology, the Siemens Magnetom Sola MRI scanner runs Monday to Friday.

About you
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Lead and manage the MRI team to ensure effective workflow, optimal resource utilization, and high standards of patient care.
- Support, mentor, and develop MRI technologists, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Coordinate staff rosters, leave planning, and workload allocation to maintain service coverage.
- Participate in recruitment, performance reviews, and professional development planning
Clinical & Technical Excellence
- Oversee and perform MRI procedures in accordance with professional standards, local protocols, and safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with MRI safety standards, including patient screening, staff safety, and equipment integrity.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of MRI technology, techniques, and emerging trends to support clinical excellence.
- Collaborate with radiologists, referrers, and other imaging teams to optimize image quality and patient outcomes.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to accreditation, radiation safety, and infection control standards.
- Lead quality assurance programs, protocol reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and report equipment performance, coordinating servicing and maintenance with vendors as required.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Medical Imaging Science / Medical Radiations or equivalent Support, mentor, and develop MRI technologists, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture
- Current registration with (e.g. AHPRA / ARRT / HCPC or relevant body)
- Postgraduate qualification or significant experience in MRI.
- Proven leadership or senior technologist experience within MRI.
- Demonstrated understanding of MRI safety, workflow optimization, and clinical governance
