About the role
We are seeking a suitably qualified Colour Technician to join our team based in Wanganui and provide technical input into developing specifications and processes for all leathers produced. You will take a lead role in ensuring that all projects are delivered in agreed time scales to the correct quality standards.
As the Finishing Pre Mixing Colour Matcher you will provide technical input into developing specifications and processes for all leathers produced, including: weighing up chemicals and dyes in accordance with recipes; (re) blending of chemicals and dyes to match required colours and finishes.
- With guidance of the Finishing Manager and working with the Production Planning Coordinator you will ensure a planned production approach and on time delivery of projects.
- Seek opportunities to improve production capabilities which drive down the cost of production i.e. chemical use, process reduction etc.
- Being part of the overall technical team, you will support the development of new products/finishing processes as per customer requirements.
- Ensure new products meet full specifications and can be produced to a consistent quality before assisting with operations team for full scale production.
- Anticipate, identify and resolve technical issues that pose a risk to safety, quality, performance or profit. Supervise craftsmanship quality.
- An understanding and ability to work with dyestuffs and pigments to match and correct colours on various leather types.
- Knowledge and understanding of how various finishes react and change colour ensuring accurate and consistent final results.
- Take a lead role in understanding various finishing chemical formulation and managing chemical stock levels.
- Complete all required reporting within established timeframe, present information in a concise manner.
- Maintain awareness of developments in technologies of potential benefit to the company.
Skills and experience
The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:
- BSc in leather technology or associated leather qualification.
- Excellent all-round technical knowledge, however, key skill requirement in finishing, equipment and process requirements.
- Extensive knowledge of Chemical development for leather industry.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Good communicator at all levels, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrable influencing skills at peer level resulting in excellent cross functional working practices.
