Facilitator – Palmerston North

Location: Palmerston North – AllSorts Centre

Employment type: Fixed term for 6 months with possibility of extension.

Hours per week: 32.5hrs week subject to negotiation with preferred candidate

Reporting to: Foundation Programmes Lead / Operations Manager (with day-to-day direction from onsite Tutor)

Industry Training Solutions (ITS) is a Category 1 NZQA-registered Private Training Establishment delivering inclusive, practical, and learner-centred education across Aotearoa. Our programmes support rangatahi and adults into work, training, and independence through foundation skills, service sector training, and community-based education.

The AllSorts Centre in Palmerston North is a key delivery site for our NZ Certificate in Skills for Living for Supported Learners (Level 1 – 2853), New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2 – 2861), and ACE-funded programmes.

About the Role

This Facilitator role will require the successful candidate to deliver some independent tutoring but primarily it requires the provision of learner support and delivery support. The Facilitator will work alongside qualified Tutors to support learners in the classroom, particularly those requiring additional literacy, learning, wellbeing, or organisational support. The successful candidate will also be required to provide independent tutoring and support in line with the specialist Kaupapa of ITS in its provision of transformative education opportunities to members of the neurodiverse community.

This role is hands-on, people-focused, and highly relational. It will suit someone who enjoys supporting others to succeed, keeping learning environments organised, and contributing to positive learner outcomes with the possibility of limited responsibility for formal assessment or moderation.

Key Responsibilities

Learner Support (Core Focus)

· Support learners during class time by providing literacy, reading, writing, and comprehension assistance.

· Help learners understand tasks, instructions, and expectations, including breaking down learning activities into manageable steps.

· Support learners with digital skills such as typing, uploading work, navigating online platforms, and accessing learning resources.

· Provide encouragement, reassurance, and confidence-building support to maintain engagement and participation.

· Assist learners to stay on track with their work and meet learning deadlines.

Wellbeing and Engagement Support

· Provide a welcoming, calm, and supportive presence in the learning environment.

· Ensure learners know where to seek help and feel comfortable raising concerns.

· Support positive behaviour, engagement, and group dynamics in collaboration with the Tutor.

· Assist with maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning space aligned with ITS values.

Tutor and Classroom Support

· Support Tutors with daily classroom administration, including attendance entry in SELMA, printing resources, organising materials, and general class set-up and pack-down.

· Assist with learner progress tracking, homework follow-up, and organisation of learner work.

· Support practical classroom routines such as after-lunch clean-up and maintaining tidy, safe learning spaces.

ACE Programme Support and Delivery

· Assist with the preparation and delivery of ACE-funded programmes, including lesson preparation, learner support during sessions, and completion of ACE attendance and compliance requirements.

· Support ACE learners with literacy, numeracy, and digital skills as required.

· Assist with ACE course close-out administration, including filing documentation and recording outcomes in SELMA.

Administration and Compliance Support

· Support Tutors with course documentation, learner file organisation, and preparation for internal or external moderation.

· Ensure learner work is accurately saved and filed in SharePoint using ITS naming conventions and folder structures.

· Assist with course close-out tasks, including finalising attendance records and preparing materials for upcoming intakes.

Cover and Continuity Support

Where required and under guidance, provide class support if a Tutor is unavailable, ensuring continuity of learner engagement and care (this does not include formal assessment or delivery responsibility).

Skills, Experience and Attributes (desirable)

· Experience supporting learners in an education, youth, community, or support role.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse learners, including Māori, Pasifika, Disabled, and neurodivergent learners.

· Confidence supporting literacy, reading, writing, and basic digital skills. Strong organisation skills and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, supportive team.

· Confidence using Microsoft 365 and willingness to learn ITS systems such as SELMA and SharePoint.

· Calm, patient, and supportive approach to learner engagement.

· Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical practice.

Qualifications (Preferred but Not Essential)

A background in education support, youth work, learning assistance, or community support is advantageous. This role does not require NZQA Unit Standard 4098 and does not require an adult education qualification, as it is not a Tutor or Assessor position, but you should be willing to undertake these throughout your employment.

Working Conditions

This role is based at the AllSorts Centre in Palmerston North and is primarily weekday-based. Expected hours are between 8am and 4pm five days a week. Hours and employment status are to be confirmed and may align with programme delivery schedules. Some flexibility is required to support course timetables and learner needs.
