About the Role

We are looking for a Nurse Educator to join our team and provide clinical expertise, education and support to our large and diverse nursing staff.

As a Nurse Educator you will be part of the Senior Nursing Team. You will be responsible for:

  • Developing a strong education frame work that will incorporate evidence based and best practice principles related to patient care.
  • Utilise your teaching skills to support changes in clinical practice and patient care.
  • Support the ongoing development of competence and capability of the nursing and Healthcare Assistant workforce, working closely with the Nurse Manager and the Senior Nursing team to identify areas of opportunity and improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Nursing team to strengthen and develop education workshops that support the portfolios using the Kirkpatrick model.
  • Prioritise issues and negotiate timeframes, while still providing high quality education and service support to nursing staff.
  • Promote and support the utilisation of information technology (e.g. TrendCare, Medchart Health learn, Cortex, Clinical Portals within Health New Zealand, Vocera) in the clinical area, as appropriate

About Service

Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a tertiary level 3 ICU based in the Waipapa building and currently resourced for 25 beds. We are a multidisciplinary team who see 1,800 patients annually covering cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, paediatric and all general specialty patients requiring intensive care.

About You

You will be an effective communicator and your approachable manner will find you acting as a clinical resource and support person for both new and experienced staff.

You will demonstrate your ability to contribute to the professional development of nursing (including ARA students) throughout the ICU and work in collaboration with Ara in the delivery of the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care papers. The Nurse Educator will also support Post Grad university study and other clinical areas.

You will be self-directed with excellent time management and organisation skills and be familiar with change management principles and processes. Your professional and supportive nature will be an asset to our team.

Your excellent interpersonal skills and your ability to adjust to a variety of adult learning styles will be imperative to this role. This position also encompasses a component of pastoral care to emotionally support our staff.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • An expert Intensive Care Nurse and either hold, or working towards, a relevant post graduate qualification
  • A qualification in adult education is desirable
  • Positive attitude with problem solving focus
  • A high degree of maturity, stability and self-confidence
  • Clinical role model who supports, encourages and empowers
  • A commitment to quality and excellence
  • Methodical, planned approach to work and establishes clear directions
  • Clinical expertise working in an Intensive Care environment
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
