About the Role:

We are a small, NZ-owned and independent IANZ Accredited Civil Materials Laboratory based in Silverdale, and we are expanding our team to manage an increasing workload. We are looking for a Civil Materials Laboratory Field Technician who may be an experienced field technician, a recent graduate with a Civil or Geology diploma / degree, or someone eager to enter the Civil Engineering field with on-site training provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field tests and inspections on civil materials and geotechnical sites.
  • Conduct laboratory tests in our IANZ accredited laboratory.
  • Manage testing on up to six projects each day, gaining practical skills in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Perform work that may include early starts, late finishes, and overtime.
  • Complete paperwork to a high standard and maintain accurate records.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with a minimum of 80 hours per fortnight.
  • Hours of work can be between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
  • The Civil industry is seasonal with the busy construction season running from October to May / June and January to May being the busiest time of the year.

About You:

  • Licenses: You must hold a full class 1 New Zealand Driver's License. A class 2 license is advantageous but not required.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift items weighing up to 30kg and must be capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Paperwork: High standard of documentation and record-keeping.
  • Reliability: You must be able to show up on time, complete tasks on time, every time with a high quality of work and do what you will say you will do.
  • Self-Motivation: Excellent time management, problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Flexibility: Adaptability to changing conditions and work requirements.
  • Team Player: Collaborative and supportive attitude within the team.
  • Location: While the office is in Silverdale, most work will be site-based in the greater Auckland area, so proximity to the office is not a major concern.
