About the role

Patients at Risk (PAR) Nurse is an enhanced senior nursing role, which focuses on patient safety and is an outreach of Critical Care. The foundation for their practice is prevention, early detection and early intervention for actual or potential deteriorating patients. It formalises a pathway via the Early Warning Score System utilised by Adult (EWS), Paediatric (PEWS) and Maternity (MEWS) care areas, providing a proactive care model of patient safety.

About the Service

The PAR team is a supportive team of senior nurses who will guide and share their skills with others. The work on a 24/7 rostered and rotating roster and cover the whole Waikato Campus. They also provide outreach support to the rural hospitals.

If you have excellent communication skills, are a team player and want a challenge, this could be the perfect position for you.

About you

A PAR nurse should have at least 5 years experience, preferably in Intensive Care and/or ED setting and should have experience caring for patients that may require airway management including ventilated patients, both adult and paediatric patients.

A PAR nurse needs to keep a cool head under pressure and be comfortable caring for deteriorating and complex patients. A PAR nurse needs to have good communication skills and an understanding of escalation processes in order to appropriately advocate for an unwell patient.

Required skills & experience to be considered for this role

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Designated Senior Nurse Experience, with proven leadership capability.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in advanced life support/ICU/ED.
  • Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication.
  • Quality Management and evidence of embedding this into clinical practice.
  • People management experience performance management, conflict resolution and team building.
  • Post graduate qualification or working towards one.
