Saint Kentigern College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Coach to support the performance, holistic development, and culture of both our 1st XV and wider Rugby programme. The engagement is offered on an independent contractor basis, supporting one of New Zealand's leading schoolboy rugby environments.

About the Engagement

The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach and Head of Rugby to deliver high-quality coaching sessions, support player development. Services are required across the Rugby season, with specific hours agreed in advance and invoiced accordingly.

Key Services include:

  • Assisting with technical and tactical coaching during trainings and matches
  • Providing individualised player feedback and contributing to independent development plans
  • Specialise in set piece, breakdown, and position-specific skill development, aligned with team strategy
  • Helping with analysis, reviews, and planning sessions
  • Contributing to positive team culture, wellbeing, and academic balance
  • Collaborating with Athletic Development, medical, and teaching staff
  • Supporting all teams, to promote alignment and inclusion across the Rugby programme

All services must be delivered in a manner consistent with Saint Kentigern values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Love.

About You

We are seeking a coach who brings strong technical expertise and a student-centred approach. You will demonstrate:

  • Experience coaching at 1A school, Premier club, or Provincial academy level
  • Strong understanding of modern rugby systems and player development
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • NZR Coaching Qualification (Level 2 considered, Level 3 preferred)
  • A commitment to fostering character, leadership, and excellence in young people
