Build specification-led growth through trusted partnerships and standout customer experience

Location: Wellington (covering Manawatu, Whanganui, Wellington, Taranaki & the wider Lower North Island)

Company: Jacobsen

Due to growth Jacobsen is looking for a driven, relationship-focused Design & Specification Advisor to promote and sell the complete Jacobsen range—directly and indirectly—across a diverse customer base including architects, designers, flooring contractors, end users and key built environment sectors.

Reporting to the Commercial Sales Director, you'll build loyalty and preference for Jacobsen by delivering exceptional service, strong follow-through, and credible technical guidance—while keeping market and competitor feedback flowing back to the wider business.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Work with the Commercial Sales Director to develop and execute customer sales plans across your territory.
  • Promote and sell the complete Jacobsen product range, supporting customers to specify and select with confidence.
  • Keep customer sample libraries and staff product knowledge up to date (including presenting new products).
  • Provide responsive support: product info, samples, technical support and training, and close the loop on requests and issues.
  • Maintain disciplined, accurate CRM administration: call notes, projects, customer data, quotes, proposals, complaints and follow-ups.
  • Review purchasing trends monthly and have practical conversations with customers about opportunities and growth.
  • Build new channels outside traditional pathways—developing relationships with end-user decision makers to grow Wellington and the wider region.
  • Stay current on products, design and installation trends, and complete ongoing structured or self-led learning.

What You'll Bring

  • Influence and/or relationships across relevant sectors, plus strong relationship building, negotiation and selling skills.
  • A determined, resilient mindset—able to persevere to win, grow and retain business.
  • Great organisation and follow-through; you handle customer requests and complaints with care and pace.
  • Technical capability (products and installation), and the confidence to provide credible support.
  • Team-first approach: you share knowledge and pass leads across sales and internal teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, plus solid computer skills (MS Office + CRM discipline).
  • High energy, solutions-based attitude, comfort with change, and personal accountability.

What Success Looks Like

  • Delivery of GP budget, customer growth, and increased market share through commercial channels.
  • Customers who experience standout support and see Jacobsen as a preferred supplier, driving loyalty and brand prominence.
  • Consistently accurate, current CRM records that support seamless internal coordination and customer service.
  • Minimum pre-set presentations to key influencers/decision makers within your territory.
  • Strong technical credibility, adherence to pricing/discounts policies, and excellent response times.
