Senior Advisor

• Contribute to making a difference as a Senior Advisor within NPHS's Health Promotion team

• Full time, fixed term role for 12 months.

About the Role

We have a fixed term opportunity for a Senior Advisor to join the Early Years team within the National Health Promotion team within NPHS.

The Early Years team work on a range of health promotion projects relating to maternal and childhood health and wellbeing. The team leads the implementation health promotion initiatives by planning and co-ordinating activities nationally in partnership with regional health promoters and their communities.

This role will have an emphasis on supporting our childhood immunisations programme.

We take a comprehensive health promotion approach that is influenced by international and national best practice models such as Te Pae Māhutonga (Durie, 1999) and the Ottawa Charter (WHO, 1986).

The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

As a Senior Advisor, you are confident working in a fast-paced environment and getting 'stuck in' with a range of work. You have proven experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice. We are looking for someone with:

• A relevant tertiary qualification, and a minimum of four years appropriate experience
• Experience in applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into work
• A strong understanding of health inequalities and experience, knowledge and skills in relation to working with Māori and Pacific communities
• Ability to work in a culturally and ethically safe way with a range of communities and stakeholders
• Proven relationship management and influencing skills
• Some leadership experience, which may include having designed or managed a project of work
• Strong project management and administration skills, effectively coordinating multiple activities and ability to plan and monitor outcome achievement
• Written and oral communication skills
• Experience in, or a passion for maternal and child health or immunisations
