NZQA is looking for a skilled editor who is passionate about te reo Maori and matauranga Maori. This is a critical role that ensures matauranga Maori is authentically represented in national assessments.

Mo te turanga | About the role

In this role, you'll lead the quality assurance and production of external assessment materials for NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship.

As an Editor, you'll play a key role in ensuring that all content is accurate, engaging, and ready for publication. You'll work across print and digital platforms, collaborating with stakeholders and subject matter experts to produce high-quality materials that meet NZQA brand and style guidelines.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the quality assurance of te reo Maori and Matauranga Maori content in external assessments

  • Develop and produce assessment materials for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and Kaupapa Ako Maori

  • Collaborate with cultural practitioners, contractors, and internal teams to ensure authentic representation of matauranga Maori

  • Manage projects and timelines to deliver accurate, publication-ready resources

He ahei au | What you'll bring to the role

  • Fluency in te reo Maori and a strong understanding of tikanga Maori

  • Proven experience in editing and desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Suite, MS Word)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in te reo Maori and English

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, publication-ready content

  • A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with designers, writers, and other stakeholders

  • Ability to plan and deliver work to meet multiple deadlines

  • Confidence engaging with Maori stakeholders and cultural practitioners

  • A deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in practice
