About the Role

We are recruiting for an exceptional leader to be our Midwife Manager, leading the implementation and ongoing management of our midwifery-led assessment and birthing unit at Te Toka Tumai Whānau Ngā Uri.

The new midwifery-led assessment and birthing unit will be off-site but close by the tertiary hospital and is being purpose-designed to support physiological labour and birth as well as to provide a primary birthing space for all primary women. It will also provide a space for antenatal assessment providing afterhours assessment for women under the care of the employed community midwifery team. There will be two midwives on every shift to enable women under our community team to access this service and to support LMC midwives who bring women and whānau into the unit.

As the Midwife Manager, you would be responsible for the day-to-day running of the unit, working collaboratively with the midwifery leadership and multidisciplinary teams. The position includes staff management, resource allocation, clinical guidance and maintaining standards of practice. This role also involves risk management, quality improvement, and fostering a supportive environment for both kaimahi and whānau.

About you

You will:

  • Have a postgraduate qualification or be working towards one
  • Have at least 5 years midwifery post-registration experience across the scope
  • Be committed to removing barriers to access to primary midwifery care, creating equity for whānau and enabling the physiological progression of labour and birth within a primary environment for those who meet access criteria.
  • Understand and be committed to implementing the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the service.
  • Vision and a strong desire to make a difference
  • Proven people management capability with a focus on professional and team development.
