Working under the North Auckland Integrated School Support Service (NAISSS), with Orewa College as managing school, the Alternative Education Co-ordinator will work to manage Alternative Education (AE) for the North Auckland region. There are currently three AE providers within this region, all contracted to Orewa College which in turns holds a funding contract with the Ministry of Education (MOE).
This position includes the following duties:
- Facilitate new enrolments in AE. Meet with young people, schools, families and other interested parties to ensure a well-supported transition into the AE setting.
- Liaise with the NAISSS director, MOE and the AE provider managers and staff.
- Complete reports for management and MOE as required.
- Monitor the AE programmes, including compliance with the contract, health and safety and education programmes.
- Provide pedagogical leadership for the providers' tutors - helping, developing and monitoring their teaching practice, and ensuring that the curriculum needs of students are met.
- Assess and approve high-risk Education Outside The Classroom (EOTC) activities.
The successful applicant will:
- Have experience in the New Zealand education sector and the ability to provide pedagogical leadership and development for the AE tutors (NZ curriculum).
- Be able to establish and maintain excellent relationships with a wide range of people - young people, families, school leaders and other stakeholders/organisations.
- Be campassionate and understand the issues that affect the young people that you will support.
- Be numerate and have the ability to manage the AE budget (in conjuction with the Director of NAISSS).
Location: Our office is in Silverdale, but you will work throughout the North Auckland Region.
Contract: You will be employed under a fixed-term contract due to the fixed-term nature of Alternative Education funding. The contract will run from January 19, 2026 until December 31, 2026.
Hours of work: 40 hours per week Monday – Friday: 8.30am – 5.00pm. You will have four weeks of annual leave, to be taken during the school holidays.
The salary will be $85 000 per annum.
A car, laptop and phone will be provided for work purposes.
