About the role – Kōrero mō te tūranga
The goal of the Pathways to Employment service is to assist refugee background individuals to find meaningful and sustainable employment and to be economically independent. Employment not only improves economic independence; it is also important to social wellbeing and connection to New Zealand society.
The purpose of the Employer Liaison role is to expand employment opportunities for former refugees in the Auckland region. This role involves working intensively and individually with both refugee-background clients and potential employers, supporting clients to secure meaningful employment.
The Employer Liaison supports clients in preparing for job searching and engaging in the New Zealand workforce in a way that aligns with their previous experience and skills. The ultimate goal is to facilitate successful, sustainable, and rewarding employment. This role also provides ongoing guidance and support to both clients and employers for up to six months following placement.
In this role you will:
- Match refugee-background clients with sustainable, suitable employment opportunities.
- Work intensively and one-on-one with clients and potential employers to support job search, placement, and in-work success.
- Proactively network and build relationships to grow our pool of supportive employers.
- Guide and support employers to strengthen their multicultural capability and inclusive employment practices.
- Provide pastoral care and holistic support to clients as needed.

To be successful you will have:
- Strong intercultural communication skills and experience working with people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds.
- A solid understanding of New Zealand work culture, employer expectations, and key industries in the Auckland region.
- Proven skills in career development and the ability to engage collaboratively with clients.
- Experience reviewing and creating CVs and related job application documents.
- Demonstrated ability to recognise and develop work readiness and to build client confidence and job search skills.
- High level of spoken and written English proficiency.
- An appreciation of the benefits of diversity in the workplace.
- An understanding of the refugee journey and common challenges experienced during the resettlement process.
- A commitment to the Fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement.
