Our team of expert academics are all about giving their best to see our ākonga (students) succeed while providing learning that is responsive to the needs of the Maritime industry.

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Planning, organising and assessing course content, resources and materials for the Diploma in Nautical Science.
  • Engaging with ākonga in a face-to-face learning environment
  • Managing learner progress toward completion of qualifications
  • Keeping accurate learner records and completing documentation to a high standard
  • Helping learners to plan for, and move into the next step on their training or career pathway

Applicants must have:

  • A Diploma in Nautical Science
  • A current Skipper Fishing Vessel unlimited (STCW) certification
  • A current First Aid and Marine Medical certificate
  • Extensive experience at sea as Captain or Skipper of a variety of smaller to mid-size vessels.
  • The ability to work with a team who have a strong emphasis on whakawhanaungatanga (relationships and how we relate to others) and a collaborative work approach.
  • A proven knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the context of counselling practice and an awareness of how we can uphold the principles of Te Tiriti within the teaching and learning environment.

Appointee should have the capacity to ability and desire to work with, motivate, and engage learners from a variety of cultural backgrounds. We encourage diversity in our kaimahi (staff) and ākonga (students).
