Te Whare Aio Māori Women's Refuge are looking for a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to join our Transitional Housing Team working from Grey Lynn, Auckland.

The right person will understand the dynamics working with whanauthat are experiencing homelessness and the challenges that have seen them become homeless, domestic and family violence, addictions and mental health.

The focus of the Housing Navigator is to support wahine to access housing, either through private rentals or Social Housing. Support wahine to access services for other supports they require to help them be able to sustain their house.

This role will suit an experienced social worker/ advocate with a background working with homeless whanau, Mental Health and Addictions, with diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic experiences. You will support our wahine and tamariki by making good use of Government Agenciesand their processes to house them. An understanding Transitional Housing processes would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Sound frameworks or models of practice related to working with whanau who have complex needs.
  • Understanding of Tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles
  • Knowledge and experienceof the emergency housing environment and transitional housing arrangements advantageous although there is good training
  • Clear professional boundaries and a non-judgmental manner
  • Be highly motivated, positive, solution focused, and a team player are a must
  • Flexible attitude and 'can do' approach
  • High level of self-awareness
  • Excellent computer skills, previous experience using data bases
  • Report writing skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with competing priorities
  • Ability to work in a fluid and sometimes stressful environment
  • Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa

You must have clean full driver's licence, positive police vetting results under the Vulnerable Children's Act are also requirements.

This role is full time, permanent, Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am to 6pm, with remuneration according to individual experience.
