Integrated Maintenance Group (IMG) is one of New Zealand's leading engineering and maintenance providers. We deliver end-to-end mechanical, fabrication, hydraulic, and project services across the North Island.

Our East Tamaki facility is a key part of that our home to our heavy fabrication, machining, and hydraulic teams who keep critical assets in the mining, mill, and manufacturing sectors operating at their best.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on leader to run our busy Weld Shop a team of 11 skilled Fitter-Welders, including a Leading Hand and an Apprentice. This is a fixed-term position (12 months) to cover a period of leave, there could be potential for ongoing opportunities as new work comes through.

You'll lead from the front managing workflow, supporting your team, and ensuring quality outcomes for our customers. The role is fast-paced and diverse, with work ranging from bespoke fabrication and repairs to large-scale plant maintenance and breakdown response.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Lead, coach, and coordinate a team of 11 Fitter-Welders
  • Manage daily workflow, priorities, and communication across the shop floor.
  • Promote a positive, safe, and well-organised workshop culture.

Customer & Technical Work

  • Engage directly with clients to scope, price, and plan work — often in dynamic environments.
  • Apply technical expertise to deliver high-quality fabrication and welding outcomes.
  • Time-critical work for major mining and mill clients.

Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain IMG's high standards of quality assurance and documentation.
  • Drive safety leadership through daily checks, toolbox talks, and audits.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes.
About You

You're an experienced tradesperson with proven workshop leadership experience. You know how to motivate a team, keep work flowing efficiently, and deliver quality results under pressure.

You'll also bring:
  • Trade qualification (Fitter-Welder, Fabricator, or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years' fabrication/welding experience, including supervision or team leadership.
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset and ability to prioritise on the go.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.
  • Basic computer literacy for job management systems and documentation
