Marketing & Fundraising Manager

Waikanae, Wellington, New Zealand Nga Manu Trust Full time NZ$80,000 - NZ$120,000 per year

We're looking for a creative, strategic, and collaborative Marketing & Fundraising Manager to grow Ngā Manu's reputation, profile, and financial sustainability.

This is a leadership role — not because it comes with direct reports, but because it requires the ability to deliver through others. You'll motivate, delegate, and collaborate with colleagues and volunteers to bring ideas to life and ensure outcomes are achieved.

You'll lead our marketing, communications, and fundraising activities — connecting audiences to our kaupapa, increasing visitation and community engagement, and generating income through fundraising, partnerships, and events.

It's a hands-on role with variety, influence, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Lead the development and delivery of Ngā Manu's marketing and communications strategy
  • Strengthen our brand and digital presence across web, email, and social platforms
  • Create and deliver campaigns and events that drive visitation and engagement
  • Develop and grow the Friends of Ngā Manu membership and donor programmes
  • Design and implement a fundraising strategy to support both day-to-day operations and our multi-year $10M Visitor Experience redevelopment
  • Build relationships with funders, sponsors, businesses, and media
  • Manage a grants calendar and collaborate with our grant writer on funding applications
  • Collaborate across teams — working with staff, contractors, and volunteers to deliver outcomes through others
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Business team, ensuring clarity, alignment, and shared ownership of goals
  • Contribute to the leadership team, supporting whole-of-organisation priorities and accountability for results
  • Model health and safety and professionalism in all work

About You

You'll be an enthusiastic storyteller and relationship builder who's motivated by purpose and enjoys variety. You'll combine creativity with commercial thinking and be just as comfortable developing strategy as you are rolling up your sleeves to deliver it.

You'll also be an influential doer — someone who can inspire others, gain buy-in, and coordinate delivery across a diverse team without direct authority. You take accountability for outcomes and follow through on what you start.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or fundraising
  • Strong digital and content creation skills (Canva, Mailchimp, social media)
  • Experience developing campaigns and events that drive engagement
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Confidence to delegate, engage, and lead through collaboration
  • Strong organisational skills and commercial awareness
  • Experience with CRM systems and donor or membership databases
  • A genuine interest in conservation and community-based work
  • Experience in the not-for profit sector or working with volunteers is an advantage but not essential

Why join us

  • Be part of a passionate, values-driven team making a tangible difference
  • Work in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by wildlife
  • Help shape a new era for one of the Kāpiti Coast's most loved organisations
  • Flexible working arrangements and genuine work-life balance

About Ngā Manu Nature Reserve

Ngā Manu is one of Aotearoa's most accessible and beloved nature reserves — a 14-hectare reserve on the Kāpiti Coast that brings people closer to nature and plays a vital role in native species conservation and education.

Our team of passionate staff and volunteers care for a rare remnant of lowland swamp forest, nurture threatened species through breed-for-release programmes, and provide thousands of visitors each year with meaningful encounters with native wildlife.

We are in an exciting phase of growth, developing a new Visitor Experience Master Plan that includes a redeveloped Visitor Centre and improved interpretation throughout the reserve, and stronger partnerships with mana whenua.

Note: applications close Sunday 2nd November 2025.
