ROLE SUMMARY:
ACG Tauranga is a leading independent co-educational school with excellent facilities and a reputation for outstanding educational outcomes. We are seeking an
experienced
, proactive guidance counsellor to work collaboratively as an integral part of our pastoral care team. The key tasks of the role are to provide a high standard of support for students, to promote emotional and mental wellbeing, self-confidence and resilience, and to work collaboratively alongside our staff.

The candidate must be a member of the NZAC but teacher registration is not a requirement for this role. Position is permanent, part-time with hours open to negotiation with the Principal. Due to commence at the beginning of term

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a culture where students feel safe and empowered to seek support.
• Build positive relationships with all students through normal school life, enabling future counselling support as required.
• Actively participate in extra curricular activities.
• Work collaboratively with Heads of School to identify students needing support. Engage with families and seek consent for all students up to and including Year 9.
• Facilitate open relationships and communication with key staff and families within the boundaries of confidentiality.
• Facilitate self-referrals for students Y10 to Y13.
• Support Heads of School with group, cohort or school specific concerns; proactively craft and implement actions.
• Proactively advise Heads of School around patterns of behaviour or emerging trends.
• Actively implement all ACG Tauranga safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Continue to engage with students through the school holiday period as required.
• Facilitate referrals as required in consultations with the relevant Head of School.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Recognised counselling qualification and NZAC membership (or eligibility)
• Ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers and wider ACG community.
• High professional standards of confidentiality, integrity, and cultural safety.
