About the opportunity:
With the imminent retirement of one of their sales staff, our client is looking for a Sales Estimator to join the sales team in an estimating role. This role would suit either an experienced senior tradesman wanting to get off the tools or a pragmatic project engineer wanting to develop their skills in pricing and managing projects.
Role description:
This is a key role with responsibilities for the development and pricing of major customer projects, ensuring timely response to customer requests, accurate pricing with appropriate production department agreement and achievable targets.
Responsibilities will include:
- Obtain material and subcontract costs
- Determine manufacturing times for design, fabrication, machining, site work and commissioning work
- Negotiate contracts with clients
- Continual development of estimating systems and tools
- Proposal Preparation
- Marketing
- Contract and job management as required
This role will suit someone with the following background / experience / qualities:
- Significant practical experience in an engineering workshop
- Project engineering experience
- Confidence with numerical calculations e.g. detailed cost estimates
- Willingness to learn
- Computer literate, skilled in word, excel
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Good interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable people management skills
- Lateral thinking/ problem solving to achieve creative design improvements
