**About the role**:
Harbour Hospice is on a journey of partnership, guided by our kaumātua, with local iwi, hapū and kaupapa Māori organsiation input, to improve health outcomes for Māori. We have created the new role of **Kaihautū O Rite Hauora - Health Equity Leader** to move us closer to being an authentic Treaty Partner with Māori, with the capability to be a pro-equity service, ensuring Māori and those with lived experience have a voice in our strategy and in all aspects of our service. Reporting to the Chief Executive and a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Kaihautū O Rite Hauora - Health Equity Leader will develop and assist in implementing the Health Equity strategy. You will build organisational capability in Te Ao Māori to ensure tūroro (patients) and family and whānau are supported by Hospice in a culturally safe way.
Responsibilities include:
- Building relationships with local iwi, hapū and kaupapa Māori health providers
- Developing the Health Equity Framework
- Implementing the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Standards and Mauri Mate Framework
- Advising the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to implement health equity initiatives, policies and processes
- Overseeing the development of Pasifika and Asian advisory groups
This part time role is for 3 days a week and will require you to travel across our sites in Takapuna, Red Beach and Warkworth.
**About you**:
This role requires an impactful leader with innate Māori cultural understanding and deep knowledge of the Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and biculturalism. Proficient in Tikanga Māori and Te Reo Māori, you bring existing local and national networks with Iwi and Māori service providers and other stakeholders. You’re well versed in health equity and ideally have current knowledge of the palliative care sector. You will also demonstrate:
- Proven leadership, including advising and guiding
- Demonstrated skills in successful change management
- Effective communication and a natural collaborator
- Sensitive to and accepting of others’ cultural norms, relating openly and comfortably
**About us**:
Harbour Hospice is one of the largest hospices in Aotearoa and has been caring for tūroro (patients) and their family and whānau for almost 40 years. Every day we care for close to 400 people across the North Shore, Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth/Wellsford regions, supporting them at home, in one of our two inpatient units, or in community programmes offered at each of our three sites.
Our bespoke services given free of charge, include nursing, medical, social work, counselling, spiritual, cultural, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacist and complementary therapy support. We offer patient, carer, family support and bereavement programmes. We have a well-established service improvement team, a focus on clinical data sharing, a focus on improved outcomes and an evolving research agenda.
