At Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
The Public Health Agency sits at the heart of Manatū Hauora and leads all public health and population health policy, strategy, regulatory, intelligence, surveillance and monitoring functions, and has a key role in providing advice to Ministers on all public health matters.

Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
As the Principal Advisor in the Pacific Health team, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to enhance Pacific Health outcomes. You will be responsible for providing expert advice, leadership, and thought guidance to our Pacific Health team. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring that our actions are rooted in the voice of lived experience and contribute to improving communication outcomes

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Policy Development: Prepare and draft policy documents, legislation, guidelines, and provide ad hoc advice to shape the future of Pacific Health initiatives.
- Thought Leadership: Offer senior policy expertise and thought leadership to inform decision-making, aligning with government and Ministry priorities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop effective stakeholder communications through diverse channels, fostering collaboration and information dissemination.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct peer reviews of documents to ensure quality, validity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Lead projects and areas while mentoring and supervising less experienced staff, contributing to the Ministry's policy capability.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate positive relationships across teams, groups, the Ministry, the wider health sector, government, and external stakeholders.

Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Significant experience in providing advice to Ministers and driving work programmes to ensure delivery of work is to the expected quality.
- A proven track record in exercising judgement and providing advice at a senior level, and working with very senior managers in a confidential environment. You must be pro-active and willing to challenge.
- Strong relationship management skills and experience in engaging with a range of sector groups and agencies.
- Proven thought leadership and senior policy development expertise
- Strong knowledge of Pacific health issues and challenges
- Previous experience working in central government and a thorough understanding of the machinery of Government
