**About the role**
The Avionics Design Engineer is an experienced contributor and a respected ‘go-to’ person within the Avionics department, responsible for components and subsystems for the Electron avionics system, upper stage, and other custom specialist electronics. Furthermore, the Avionics Design Engineer II will be a prime point of contact for issues, questions, and design changes for any given area of expertise. This role is highly technical, demanding specific experience in requirements capture and design, electronic circuit design, schematic capture, printed circuit board design, electromechanical design, and electronic testing for mission-critical and safety critical circuits. Our teams Avionics Components form a key part of the Electron launch vehicle, upper stage and orbital electronics, and electronics used in supporting equipment and ground support equipment.

**Essential skills**:

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering.
- Experience designing hardware from concept through production inclusive of developing requirements in accordance with provided constraints.
- Understanding of electronic circuits, design principles, and SMT manufacturing techniques.
- Experience in design and analysis of power electronic circuits and brushless motor control
- Experience with eCAD software such as Altium to design analogue, digital and high-speed circuits and layouts.
- Experience with mCAD software such as NX or Solidworks.
- Experience using change management systems such as Altium Vault, SVN, or Git and PLM systems such as Teamcenter.
- Understanding of FMECA, Reliability, derating and related analyses.
- Understanding and experience in environmental design testing, such as vibration, shock, thermal, and TVAC.
- Understanding of interfaces, sensors and instrumentation including power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, serial devices, and instrumentation.
- Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or Rust an advantage.
