Auckland City, New Zealand Auckland Council Full time

Provide hands-on clinical care supporting Auckland’s desexing campaign
- Contribute to animal welfare and community outreach.
- Work in a supportive team and grow your veterinary knowledge.

**He angitūtanga: The Opportunity**

We’re seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinarian to join our team in supporting the Lead Veterinarian on Auckland Council’s vital desexing campaign. In this role, you’ll play a key part in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of animals in our care across four main shelters.

Your primary focus will be clinical—performing surgeries, conducting consultations, and delivering high-quality medical care. You'll also provide advice and training to Animal Management staff to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and professional capability are upheld across our shelters.

This is a purely clinical role, meaning you’ll be free to focus on what you do best—caring for animals—without the need to engage in financial discussions with clients.

In addition to your day-to-day clinical responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to work across multiple shelter locations and contribute to community education initiatives. You’ll be part of a close-knit, purpose-driven team committed to improving outcomes for animals and the people who care for them.

This is a full-time fixed term role until April 2026, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Location is in Henderson Animal Shelter.

**He kōrero mōu: About You**

You’re a compassionate, experienced veterinarian who thrives in a hands-on, community-focused environment. You take pride in delivering high-quality care, and you understand the importance of hygiene, record-keeping, and collaboration in a busy shelter setting. Your calm, clear communication style helps you connect effectively with both animals and people—whether they’re pet owners, colleagues, or fellow professionals.

You’re committed to continuous learning and are confident in sharing your expertise with others. You bring cultural awareness to your work and are either comfortable with, or open to learning, te reo Māori and incorporating tikanga Māori where appropriate.

**What you’ll bring**:

- A degree in Veterinary Medicine and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical practice
- Current registration (or eligibility) with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
- Strong surgical skills and experience working with animals of various sizes and temperaments
- A solid understanding of best-practice veterinary care and relevant regulations
- Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills
- A willingness to support community education and outreach initiatives
