**About the role**:
We have an exciting and one-of-a-kind opportunity in the NZ food manufacturing industry for a permanent or contract CNC Machinist/Programmer to join our Engineering Team. You will lead this sole charge position both designing production and bespoke parts, while having the chance to fit them and proactively be part of the R+D behind each piece.

You will not be stuck in front of a machine all day running the same parts over and over. The expectation is that you will regularly join the engineering team on the front line to both refine and repair the various production lines, ranging from very compact machines to machines in excess of 70m long.

You will be responsible for providing CNC CAD/CAM engineering skills necessary to enable the production team to achieve the daily production targets in accordance with health & safety and to quality system standards. You will be also working actively on our bottling, bakery, steamed puddings, dairy, and powdered sugar lines.

**The shift engineers will be central to the improvement of plant OEE and key r**esponsibilities and accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to**:

- Ensure maintenance work is completed to plan and specifications, and all manufacturing standards are achieved.
- Provide technical advice to Reliability Manager, Chief Engineer and Production Manager regarding plant machinery.
- Minimise production down time through timely preventative maintenance and or effective remedial measures as required.
- Complete asset inspection checks and jobs that ensure all reasonable steps are taken to maintain all equipment owned by the company.
- Project work with line improvements and new business opportunities there will be several projects running at any given time. Assistance or leadership of these projects will be available as the need arises.

**To be successful **in** this role, you will have the following skills, knowledge, and experience**:

- Qualified CNC machinist
- Mechanical design using a common CAD/CAM software such as: Solid works/Gibbscam/Solidcam/Fusion 360
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical design drawings.
- Able to set up and operate a VMC unsupervised reliably.
- A passion for R+D and design
- Excellent at mentoring junior staff and willing to share knowledge to the greater engineering team.
- Continuously seeks to improve systems and procedures balancing efficiency with a quality and safety focus and attention to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP Standards).
