**Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role**
We are seeking a Senior Adviser to join our Cost Recovery Directorate which sits within our Corporate Services business unit. The Cost Recovery directorate is responsible for cost recovery strategy and policy implementation to ensure our cost recovery functions are aligned with best practice, well regarded by industry and an exemplar within the public service.
This team develop,, and maintain our cost recovery practices, providing impact analysis on costing models when changes are required to recover costs across MPI and adhere to legislation.
As a Senior Adviser, you will ensure our charging practices are transparent, up to date and easily understood by Ministers, fee payers and MPI employees. You will spot opportunities to amend regulations to support MPI's services and provide charging practice information to Ministers and fee payers as requested.
You will play a key role in developing and maintaining a holistic understanding of how well cost recovered services are performing and develop routine performance reporting for business groups and external stakeholders.
The Costing and Modelling team also works alongside Finance and business groups to understand the costs associated with operations and support decisions around when charging reviews should be initiated.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop financial models to assist with Cost Recovery
- Delve into data to understand the costs incurred by various businesses
- Provide expert advice on cost recovery matters across MPI's functions
- Maintain oversight of cost models, and ensure they remain current and fit for purpose
- Develop effective partnerships with internal stakeholders to support improved understanding of cost recovery financial performance
- Ensure MPI is operating in accordance with commercial best practice. Audit Office guidance, and Treasury requirements.
**Mōu - About You**
To be successful in the role you will need to have demonstrated experience working in cost recovery or other related finance, costing and modelling and or/regulations areas. You will have a strong analytical and commercial mindset, paired with a can-do attitude.
What we will be looking for is:
- At least 5+ years relevant experience in identifying cost effective solutions to business risks, and providing risk analysis to complex business areas and/or operations
- Exceptional Microsoft excel and data modelling skills, able to manage data efficiently and accurately.
- A passion for transforming data into insights to support decision making.
- Highly professional, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Experience in managing internally focussed relationships and consultative processes.
- Experience researching and analysing data.
**Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team**
This is a unique Wellington based team, reporting to a personable, supportive manager in MPI's Cost Recovery Directorate. The team is made up of three Senior Advisers and two Analysts working closely alongside our colleagues in Policy and Performance.
The team works across all MPI branches and legislation to ensure the cost recovery regulations remain accurate and fit for purpose. This includes ensuring cost recovery is enabled in new legislation, the business units understand our charging practices, and opportunities are identified to amend regulations to make them simpler for Ministers, MPI and fee payers.
