**Principal Planner**

**About the role**

The role of the Principal Planner is to provide expert planning advice to the Resource Consents Manager and the Regional and District Consent Team Leaders in the delivery of a responsive and efficient service processing resource consents. The expectation is the role will assist as agreed with the Consents Manager in contributing to the development and review of Council’s Resource Management Act Plan, and other environmental strategies, as well as providing planning advice to monitoring and compliance where necessary.

**Duties Include**:

- Regional and District Plan Implementation
- Processing Resource consents for Council
- Assist Council in reviewing and developing planning policies and strategies,
- Provide professional Advice
- Advise on resource management matters.
- Support/Administration
- Provide advice and support to the Resource Consents Manager
- Development of Staff
- Take a lead role in the development of knowledge and planning skills of planning staff within the consents team.

**Skills & experience**
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly report writing
- Participate in continuing professional development to keep abreast of changes in resource management planning and practice
- Experience in reporting to Council Committees
- Experience in Planning Officer role at notified hearings and Environment Court
- Appropriate experience processing resource consents
- Knowledge of resource management legislation, theory, and best practice principles
- Knowledge of working in partnership with tangata whenua or at least a willingness to learn
