**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

A fixed term, part time position is available for a highly motivated nurse to work as a Nurse Educator. The Nurse Educator need to have strong interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to work collaboratively and innovatively within a large multidisciplinary team.

The Nurse Educator will be required to develop and provide focused neonatal educational programs that are underpinned with evidence, patient safety and a strong whānau focus. This role is also required to contribute to Starship Children’s Health education development and delivery.

The role foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation, and the Nurse Educator need to be committed to the professional development of the nursing team, being able to build on the nurse's existing knowledge and provide opportunities for advancement of clinical skills in neonatal nursing.

The **Neonatal Intensive Care Unit** (NICU) in Starship Children’s Hospital is a 40 cot unit consisting of 18 intensive care and 22 high dependency cots. NICU cares for babies born premature from 23 weeks gestation, and is the referral centre for babies who need paediatric cardiology services, neonatal surgery or treatment for complex metabolic diseases. The unit are also responsible for flight retrieval for the Northern Region.

**To be considered for this role you must-**
- Be a registered nurse and have registration with NZ Nursing Council
- Have completed or progressing a postgraduate programme
- Have advanced clinical practice knowledge - at least 3 years of neonatal experience in a tertiary hospital
- Have a sound knowledge of clinical teaching and learning methods
- Have a strong commitment to quality healthcare
- Be capable of working independently and within a team
- Have excellent communication, critical thinking skills and a commitment to family integrated care
- Have an understanding of the Te Toka Tumai’s professional development programme
