Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency. Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.
The Commission is going through an exciting period of growth, driven by increases in its functions, duties and powers, and supported by additional Government funding.
In October 2018, Parliament passed an amendment to the Commerce Act that empowers the Commission to undertake market studies. Market studies look into the factors affecting competition for the supply or acquisition of specified goods or services to find out whether competition is working effectively and, if not, why and what could be done to improve it.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
It's an exciting time to join the Market Studies team, as the Commission begins preparation for a fourth market study, having recently completed a third high-profile market study, into residential building supplies.
As one of two Principal Advisers, Market Studies, you will contribute as a thought leader on complex topics, assist in leading analysis planning, directing information gathering and analysis, and assist with report drafting, bringing the ability to cut through volumes of information and detail to identify the strategically important issues and focus points.
Working as part of a team to conduct enquiries and analysis, you will be interacting with a broad range of stakeholders and interested parties including senior leaders within some of New Zealand's largest companies. You will also lead and contribute to the drafting of complex analysis and reports.
This is a permanent role based either in our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.
He kōrero mōu | About you
This role requires a strong strategic ‘thinker', ‘analyst' and ‘writer', and provides an attractive career step for someone with a legal, economics, financial or policy background.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- Tertiary qualification(s) in law, economics, finance, public policy or related field, with a sound academic transcript
- Substantial professional experience at a senior associate, manager, senior/principal adviser or project director level
- Knowledge of competition and consumer law, or public law or regulation economics to an expert level
- Exemplary research and writing ability
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
Above all, we are seeking a smart and curious individual who has a keen interest in competition and consumer protection, a keen interest in understanding how markets function, and someone who is committed to public service and working in the interests of New Zealanders.
Te wāhi mahi | Working here
We're friendly and collaborative and enjoy contributing to our shared vision of making New Zealanders better off. Career growth and development is not only supported and encouraged, it's a part of everyday life here. We also offer a range of benefits to show that we'll value your mahi, including generous leave entitlements, study support, a range of wellness initiatives and competitive remuneration.
We are committed to our people's wellbeing. Any support needed is freely given, providing the opportunity for everyone to thrive. Our flexible working options are key to supporting that goal and our people have the technology they need to make it happen. We even offer a contribution to working from home set up costs. Our environment is inclusive, and our people know they are free to be their authentic selves at work and structure the way they work to suit their lifestyle.
Ka pēhea te tono mai | How to apply
