Wellington City, New Zealand NZ Post Full time

Leave the Big 4 - make the move to corporate
- Lead a new commercial in-house tax team
- Wellington based with WFH flexibility

Mō te Tukurau Aotearoa - About NZ Post
The needs of our customers are ever-changing and happening faster every day - our team needs to be one step ahead of these changes and act quickly, knowing exactly how the network is performing and able to deliver for our customers. We are growing our international and domestic parcels and logistics businesses by building partnerships and ensuring we're highly focused on what our customers want and need. New Zealand Post has been a vital link for New Zealanders for over 170 years, and in the future, we will continue to be a trusted Kiwi company that helps customers succeed and helps New Zealand grow.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We're establishing an in-house tax team and need a commercially focused Senior Manager to take the lead. The role will provide proactive and strategic insight into NZ Post's tax affairs and advise, support and grow trusted relationships across NZ Post (both in NZ and overseas), with external tax experts and with Inland Revenue.
The Senior Manager - Tax will need to develop NZ Post's tax risk management framework and identify and manage tax risk and tax compliance processes in accordance with it - ensuring that New Zealand Post complies with all applicable tax law and its tax position is optimised. They will also proactively engage with business units across the group (including subsidiary Fliway), raise awareness, identify risks and opportunities, and provide support on all tax related matters.
Mōu - About you
You're probably ready to leave one of the Big 4 and move into a corporate role. You'll will have proven tax expertise in a similar senior level role (e.g. 3+ years' experience in a senior tax role), preferably as a Senior Manager with a “Big 4” firm. Other key requirements of the role include:

- At least 7 years of relevant tax work experience. Broad tax compliance skills and experience -across income tax (capital/revenue especially), GST, employee-related tax (i.e., PAYE and FBT - given NZ Post's relatively large payroll) and withholding tax (i.e., NRWT and NRCT).
- A tertiary qualification in accounting or law, membership of an appropriate professional organisation (likely CAANZ) and a strong understanding of the key tax issues for New Zealand corporates.
- Strong tax effect accounting skills - there is some complexity at NZ Post with things like deferred tax recognition, properties held for sale/available for use etc. This requires someone with strong tax effect accounting skills.
- Confident with decision making. Able to analyse and understand complex information.
- Excellent project management, stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Effective influencing and relationship building skills.

NZ Post is really going places and you'll be someone who shares our energy and optimism as a key contributor in that journey. We have a progressive accounting team, great leaders and plenty of future opportunity. Your sharp commercial acumen, intellect and positive ‘can do' attitude will be highly valued here. We're a down to earth bunch and you'll be happy to be hands on, roll up your sleeves and get into the detail if required.
You'll be building your team from scratch, and so any experience developing and leading a high performing team would be advantageous.
What's in it for me?
This is a great opportunity to play a critical role in a new phase for NZ Post. We're a commercially driven organisation and we're not standing still.
We offer a competitive salary package which includes a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, 22 days annual leave, medical care for you and your family and a range of other benefits. You are encouraged to be autonomous in how you deliver so you can achieve a work & life balance tailored for you. This role is preferably based in Wellington.

There's something really special about being part of the team here at NZ Post - Tukurau Aotearoa, who we are and what we stand for is grounded in our values.
