- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week between 06:00 - 18:00. Flexibility is required for weekend or after-hours work.
- On-call duties include urgent call-outs for repairs and phone support.

**About the Role**:
Ashburton Hospital is seeking a dedicated Trade Assistant to join our maintenance and engineering team. This is a hands-on role supporting the repair, maintenance, and operation of hospital buildings, services, plant equipment, and grounds. The role also includes project work and urgent maintenance tasks as part of an on-call rotation.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Maintenance and Repair**:

- Perform non-technical maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems across CDHB buildings and sites.
- Conduct routine maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, medical gas systems, and other building services.
- Carry out minor building repairs, including carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
- Perform daily checks on plant rooms, air conditioning units, tunnels, and sewer lines.
- Conduct regular portable appliance testing and assist Electrician with other electrical testing
- Regularly inspect operating systems and services throughout CDHB sites.
- Assist with cleaning and upkeep (e.g., removing debris from spouting and traps).
- Support installation and upgrades of building services and plant systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, including the use of PPE.

**Project Work**:

- Complete maintenance and repairs in line with project timelines.
- Recommend improvements to the Site Maintenance Manager.

**On-Call Duties**:

- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation approximately every 4-5 weeks.
- Respond to urgent work requests.
- Conduct urgent repairs or coordinate contractors when required.

**Additional Duties**:

- Assist with equipment relocation, delivery tasks, and vehicle grooming.
- Perform window cleaning and waste management.
- Drive passenger buses for Elizabeth Street Day Care and Tuarangi Home (if endorsed).

**About you**

**Essential Requirements**:

- Experience in building services, trades, or maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, engineering, and plumbing.
- Full Driver’s License.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing tasks.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of building statutory requirements and patient service impact.

**Desirable**:

- Trade qualified
- Experience in 24-hour environments.
- Passenger Endorsement or Class 2 Driver’s License.
- Opportunities for further training and development.
- Play a crucial role in maintaining hospital facilities and supporting patient care.
