Ko te kaupapa | About the role
We are seeking a qualified Ophthalmology Clinical Nurse Specialist to work in our Outpatient Department team. The above role works with the Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand to improve health outcomes through advanced nursing practice, knowledge and skills, leadership and consultancy for patients seeking ophthalmology treatment intervention.
The CNS provides specialist nursing advice, care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in supporting other staff caring for patients with ophthalmology requirements and conditions. The focus is on assisting, directing and supporting the care of patients with ophthalmology requirements through modelling expert clinical skills, promoting best practice, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and providing education. Plays an active role in the development and achievement of the strategic direction for the Ophthalmology Service.
This position understands that they are delivering the required MOH service specifications and what is required in regard to this service under the MOH Price Volume Schedule or agreed contractual arrangements, including leading and contributing to the development of Ophthalmology pathways, protocols and guidelines, research and interaction with health promotion teams with a focus on prevention and/or management of care that integrates between the secondary, primary and community health sectors.

- You must be a qualified Ophthalmology Clinical Nurse Specialist or an interest to work towards this path
- Have experience or demonstrate potential for working in a hospital/outpatient setting
- Hold the legal right to work in New Zealand
- A relevant post-graduate experience with a minimum of 2 years consolidated practice.
- A current Expert PDRP or committed to working towards the level in the next 12 months
- A customer and team-focused approach to patient care
- High attention and detail pertaining to patient-focused care, equity in delivery of care, patient health education, process, policy, guidelines, communication and documentation
- Be a critical thinker
- Demonstrated ability to deliver optimal patient care
- Flexibility and adaptability even on short notice
- The ability to support other areas within the hospital if required
- Demonstrate Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand - Whanganui District values
- Motivated to maintain high level of knowledge and skill
- Hold a New Zealand Driver's License
- Be vaccinated for covid-19
