**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**
We are seeking a Maori Programmes Assistant to work alongside our programmes team in developing and facilitating the day and evening programme for Nga Taiohi. The focus of this position will be on guiding and teaching the rangatahi cultural practices including, but not limited to kapa haka and waiata. The successful applicant will ensure that the rangatahi have access to cultural activities that enhance their cultural identity by promoting the use of Te Reo and ensuring that the principles of Te Ao Maori are embedded in the day to day running of the unit.
**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**
Located about 20 minutes away from central Wellington, in Porirua, is Nga Taiohi, our state of the art, National Secure Youth Forensic, 10 bedded unit. This is the only national inpatient service for young offenders with acute severe mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues and caters for rangatahi (young people) between the ages of 13 and 18 years. This secure forensic unit is a bi-cultural service and is co-located with our existing Acute Youth Mental Health Inpatient Unit (Rangatahi) and the Youth Intellectual Disability (ID) Inpatient Unit (Hikitia Te Wairua) and is collectively known as the - The Youth Centre for Excellence - at Kenepuru Hospital. This service is part of Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS).
**Moū - About you**
You will have:
- Knowledge and skills in Tikanga Māori
- Experience in group work
- Good organisational skills
- Effective communication skills
- Experience in a coordinating role
- Experience in delivering and running individual programmes for rangatahi
- Understanding and ability to converse in Te Reo Māori
- Skills in teaching kapa haka
- Experience of working in a hospital/healthcare setting desirable
- Minimum qualification Level 4 NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Mental Health and Addiction
